Happy 4-20! A nice review for ‘Darning Socks…in the Jersey Beat THE QUIET CORNER: SPRING 2010
By Robert Barry Francos , not sure how it got there but that’s cool!
About 3/4’s of the way down the page…http://www.jerseybeat.com/quietcorner.html
From the title of PATRICK KAVANEY AND THE LAST DRAGS’ “Darning Socks for the Apocalypse” (workingstiffrecords.com), one may think we’re talking punk, but no, PK&TLD is a mix of country and Americana, with some rock’n’roll thrown in. But one thing is when they are witty, they spare no expense, with songs like “Spanish Nightmare,” “Delusion & Grandeur” (as in being on the corner of), “Looking Forward Back,” and “Ego Bandito.” Yet even with the puns, the songs are strong and tend toward the ballad, but stay pretty strong. Kavaney’s voice is well suited for this material, and what also makes this record, is its basis on strings: guitars, lap guitar, slide guitar, and bass flow through, with a real good rhythm holding it up. There’s even a bit of Tex-Mex thrown in, with “Waking Song.” They may be from Oregon, but they have that more southern sound down. Not as harsh as, say, southern rock, or as bland as modern country, they’re somewhere in-between, with a rich, full sound.-

After only 2 weeks of auditions, we have secured our new drummer, Joel Albrecht! Joel is going to be an awesome addition to the band. A gifted and professional player with tons and tons of experience, we are psyched Joel is onboard. Joel also happens to be a sound engineer and part time mastering engineer, so that could be an excellent addition as well. Joels first gig with us will be May 22nd at The Muse in Eugene!
Welcome aboard Joel!!

Darning Socks for the Apocalypse is available through iTunes now! Soon it will be available through Amazon as well.
So far ‘Darning…’ has received airplay in Texas, Alaska, Maine and Oregon. NPR is playing it and our local student run station as well!
Sending another 65 CD’s to Europe for review soon!
Exciting news today! I have been working with a publicist from Seattle named Rachel Harrington and her company called Emerging Artist Resources (who I highly recommend). Through her contacts she has helped me to get the new album featured on Lufthansa inflight radio for all international flights starting in January! Really quite exciting and interesting! Thanks Rachel! We’re going international!
Yeehaw!

Well the CD’s are here but you can’t have ‘em yet! hahaahaa! Now comes the build up to the CD release and I’m working with Rachel Harrington’s company Emerging Artist Resources to get it out to appropriate press and radio. We are all very pleased with the way it came out and can’t wait for everyone to hear it. The stellar artwork is by Claire Flint-Last (Three Seed Designs, http://www.claireflint.com) once again and looks amazing! Thanks Claire!
Official CD release date is Dec 18th! Watch for it everybody!
The album is finished, mixed, mastered, artwork is done, duplication copy has been sent to Discmasters and I am on the cusp of getting the first 500 copies of “…Socks” It’s a rewarding feeling to be finished with an album…now comes the real work of getting it hyped and out there and the build up towards the CD release which won’t happen until december. The CD release is going to be a dual
Welcome Back Shipe/ Last Drags CD release party, we’re psyched!!
The disc is finished and just in time! Ebbage has left the building, the Eugene building that is….Ebbage moved to Seattle and we wish him luck! “Darning…” will be out by late Sept and we are planning a combo release/Welcome Back Shipe CD release for around that time.
Some cool gigs coming up; Cozmic, Next Step Arts Fair….
We have a new face in the band, Mike Gelardi has been joining us on keyboards and it sounds great
Come out and enjoy the Drags when you can!
The recording of the new disc is coming along swimmingly as they say! Ebbage and I have been spending many long hours in Jerry Groove’s (thanks to Jerry, Lydia and Shula for letting us take over your basement) basement tinkering and it’s really sounding great!
I’m thrilled with the outcome so far….we are 10 tracks deep and it’s definitely got a cool vibe
The songs have really taken on their own personalities which has been really fun to watch…
We have solid rhythm tracks from Jerry Groove, Reeotch and Ebbage and so the groove is in good hands! Ebbage is on tour currently (please check out ehrenebbage.com for his shows in the midwest) but upon his return I think one last push and we will be done with all the tracking and can dive into mixing.
It’s been great to get to know Ebbage and bond and I hope to do some shows with him as well!
He kicks ass!
The Last Drags has said goodbye to our long time drummer Reeotch (Rich Sellars)
The shock therapy seems to be going well for him and he seems to finally be at peace that he is not the “fifth Beatle”. Although Reeotch has gone to strawberry fields, we will still definitely play with him from time to time. Jerry “Groove” Abelin is still rockin it on bass and we have been “breaking in” Reeotch’s replacement, Charlie Davis. Charlie is a great drummer and we are excited about the prospects with him…we are currently looking for a fourth member to fill out the band…currently holding auditions for guitar or keys.
is not only producing but also recording, engineering and helping to add his awesome chops on the record too! Thanks Ebbage! You Rock! More updates soon!
